I am a pastor and a parent of two girls. My one daughter is 18 months old right now and at times she can be a handful. Don’t get me wrong, I love her immensely, especially the way she laughs and the intense joy she got out of playing hide and seek today in the sanctuary, but she is a toddler and sometimes that can be scary.
Tonight after dinner our family started head off for our bedtime routines. My older daughter went to get ready for bed and my wife and I started to clear off the dishes and wash them. My wife put our toddler down and she merrily trotted off to another room.
It was only a few minutes after we let her loose that we realized that all too eerie silence that can happen. It is not a moment of joy or of peace and quiet, but of utter fear for what may be happening in the silence of the bedtime routine.
